The Power of Our Own Path

Self-direction enables success.

I will find my own path even if it means I get left behind. I’ll catch up on my own time and on my terms. I was in my thoughts climbing at the weekend as my husband pushed on ahead.

He advised me to come down a certain path. So being obstinate I said…

“ No, leave me to my own path”

I advised him to go on and grounded myself determined to find my own way. A route that worked for me.

Naturally, he was directing me out of his humanness and concern for my fused spine. But we are both determined and driven in different ways so we do and can resist. We all take different paths in our lives and work. Mine was to get a qualification and fall into a career by circumstance rather than choice.

I failed despite being good at it because I was on the wrong path. I didn’t own it. I like to live my own life. I wake up in the morning and think…

“ What do I want to do today?” instead of “What do I have to do today?”

It takes years to get here but if you find the right path you can follow it on your own terms in a way that works for you.

I sometimes ask myself does the freedom and happiness of being my own boss come from having less responsibility?

But as I climbed higher I realized it comes from living a self-directed life. I’ll continue on my path.
