Why taking a “think week” can benefit your work and career.

--

Many business owners and executives put in place “think weeks” into their schedules. Week-long periods to reflect, read, think and live outside the all-consuming world that is the daily grind.

If you are facing a big decision or considering a career pivot it can also help you reach more clarity.

Here is a bit of what I got up to on my recent time out. Lots of reading, journaling, eating, sleeping and walking in nature. I spent time thinking through both my personal goals and the direction of the company.

We’re moving so fast, it can be wise to slow down to make bigger decisions. My thinking time has given me a fresh and different perspective. A new month is upon us as is the last quarter. I do advocate taking a step back if needed to protect physical and emotional health.

If you can’t take a full week consider a day or weekend instead.

It gives space for self-reflection and compassion.

It’s an opportunity to press “pause”.

It creates the space and silence to focus and perform deep work.

It builds your self-awareness.

Give yourself permission to slow down to move much faster. The busier we are the more we will think that we can’t afford to take one!

Have a good month ahead.
